SIZE
Miniatures - bigger than micro minis, most live in two inch pots. Smaller leaves than semi-miniatures.
Semi-miniatures - Smaller than standards, these mostly live in 2-1/2 to 3 inch pots
Standards - most violets that are happy to live in 4" pots are referred to as standard sized.
Large - violets that have bigger leaves and flowers that can grow to be happy in 4-6" pots
Trailers - violets that live, grow and flower happily with multiple crowns
FLOWERS - Shape
Single, Double, Semi-double, Triple - the layers of petals on a flower
Pansy - Five petal 2 up and 3 down pansy shaped flowers
Wasp - Like pansy shaped only curled or shredded
Star - five single pointed petals more or less flat
Thumbprint - one light colored dot of color on each petal
Fantasy - flecks of contrasting color on each petal
Watercolor - light blended color on petal
Chimera - visible stripe on each petal
Russian - extremely ruffled and colored petals and leaves
Space Violets - extremely ruffled and colored petals and leaves by Optimara brand where the seeds of the genetic parents were in space for 6 years

LEAVES
Plain - mostly flat without characteristics
Ovate - oval shaped

Serrated - scalloped edges
Quilted - the veins are tighter making the leaf look puffy
Ruffled - the leaves have ruffled edges so they don't lay flat
Heart Shaped - the tip of the leaves are slightly pointed
Longifolia - the leaves are elongated
Girl leaves - the really ruffled leaves with lighter colored centers around the stem are referred to as "girl" leaves
